Description

Description

A superb and varied walk that weaves its way around the large sandstone boulders of Annot, across an exposed cliff top traverse to an excellent rocky viewpoint before returning via a quiet woodland trail. Annot is located 25 mins drive towards Nice from St-Andre-les-Alpes.

Park either in the town square or up at the railway station.

The route starts just before the railway station by going through the tunnel under the railway and turning right.

The route is marked with painted yellow dashes but keep an eye on these as there are many alternative routes, particulalry at the start in the boulders.

Follow the signs for Chambre de Roi which takes you through a large rocky cleft.

After this is the "passage dangeroux" a rising narrow path under and above the cliffs with an exposed drop to its side. Take care if walking with dogs and children.

This leads into woods and past some cave dwellings. Shorty after there is a sign post for a viewpoint off to the right. This small diversion is recommended (20 minutes return). It takes you up and across smooth exposed rocks to a good summit view.

Return to the sign in the woods and go right. Continue uphill to the "Porte" a natural gateway through some rocks. After a short scramble down from this turn immeadiatly right on an indistinct path that weaves through the boulders.

Pick up the yellow dashes again and follow the path that continues through the woods and down into Annot. Cafes and bars in the town square provide a nice reward for completing this delightful hike.
